My idea is described in the copy of the letter sent French Republic's President, here after :
Mr. President of the
Presidence: Republic of the Palais de l'Elysee
55 i Fog St. Honore
75008 Paris
Mr. President,
You seem to be concerned about our environment, and you are trying to undertake reforms to preserve our planet best possible way.
Grenelle’s environments meeting and other actions are worthy of attention. However, I am still not sure whether the actions undertaken are really adequate to the scale of our planet? Is it enough to limit the problem to emission of CO2 and recycling of waste?
It seems to me that there is another problem well known to you but you do not point out it. There is a hudge population problem on our old Earth. Surely you are aware of the fact that the world population is growing very fast. Around the year 1700 the world population was estimated between 600 and 679 million. In year 2000, population grew to 6.1 billion and at present to 6.625 billion. This translates into an increase of almost 70 million people per annum! It is equivalent to a country like the ours being born every each year. What is worse, the vast majority of these newborn people live in dire poverty. CO2 emission and the need for food and living space for this large number of newborn people cause damage far more important then “environment protection savings" using all sorts of means in some western countries.
Don’t you think, Mr. President, that the time has came to stop this demographic growth that threatens with destruction of the wildlife that still remained, depletion of natural resources, and may lead the world towards an unimaginable catastrophe?
As far as I remember, in the past (forty years ago or more but still during my life), on a conference in Cairo, Egypt UN undertook an attempt to initiate the movement towards programmed growth of the global population. However, that attempt failed due to opposition of Catholics and Muslims.
The current situation is more intricate. Nevertheless, can we allow the terrorists bring life on Earth to extinction in effect of manipulation of one religious doctrine or another?
It is hard me to comprehend why we always criticize the Chinese for not respecting the human rights and do not appreciate immense effort of their population in the area of birth control? To the contrary to the negative opinion about China, this is the only country known to me that has recognized its demographic situation and environmental problems. In effect, China has introduced a limit of one child per one woman. This initiative should only be praised since making 20% of the world’s population, number of inhabitants in that region has stabilized at a certain level. In contrast to China, between years 1981 and 2003 India increased its population by factor 1.5 (that is 350 million people or 16 million per year on average). To get the full picture, 60% of demographic potential located in Africa and South America should be added to this account.
Don’t you think, Mr. President, that Chinese initiative, simple, ethical and equitable should be promoted on the whole planet?
I have the impression that the leaders of this world do not realize or pretend that they do not comprehend that the primary danger to the planet comes from a man and size of population. We endanger existence of other forms of life, but the survival of our human race is in dependent on them. Many a specimen is already extinct anyway. The film Yann Arthus Bertrand that we recently had opportunity to see was a shocking document.
May we do nothing and force our children or grand children to live on this Earth among 10 billion people by the year 2050 or even earlier? Knowing that their future will be very difficult or even catastrophic, are we able to make more children and incite others to the same?
I
Mr. President, your government recently increased financial aid for large families. This decision is hard to me to understand. The population of our country is already over 63 million (to compare, there was 54,334 million people in 1982!) and shows the highest growth rate in Europe. We are doing everything to make life of these children after they reach adulthood and middle age very difficult. In a short term these babies contribute to some economic growth. Is a short-term gain or rather solution of main problem on your mind, Mr. President? I believe that we have to develop new methods of management, to live with reduced economical growth but not at the expense of future generations.
When the population will get older the people will have to work longer, depending on the individual abilities of each one. You have just done something on this area allowing the people to extend their employment age up to 70. Bravo, Mr. President.
It seems to me that we are at the turning point, not only in economic matters but a demographic matter as well. We witnessed the consequences of lack of control over global economy and especially the finances of a number of very large banks. If we leave the population explosion the consequences may occur to be grieve or even catastrophic. For this reason there is a need for multiplication of all efforts of human intelligence to control the world economy wisely but also to stop the growth of the population.
The Chinese people continue control growth of their population and they prove that this can be done. In my opinion, they are good example to rest of us and a very valuable partner.
You've managed to bring great leaders of this world to the negotiation table to discuss the economic crisis. What about bringing them together again to discuss the future of our planet in context of the population growth? The methods of reduction of emission of CO2 or recycling of waste are already implemented in several countries but they seem to be secondary to the population problem.
It is not difficult to give birth to a child. Many are able to do this. However, first we must be sure that we can provide the child a better life. This is the necessary condition, otherwise the act of birth coverts into sentence to death. The whole nature operates according to this principle. Therefore it is necessary for parents being able to secure their children happy life at least to reasonable extend.
A child to the parents is a joy but such a feeling is often selfish. A fruit of act of love does not possess eternal life. It subjects to illness and suffering. Unfortunately, life itself seems to be an incurable disease.
Why in the name of maternal selfishness, the primal instinct, and religious beliefs we have to advance towards completely unreasonable world population level instead of keeping it at the level that ensures the conservation of human kind, with total respect of surrounding us all forms of life? Our action should be thoughtful, responsible, and pragmatic.
These are the means sine qua non for preservation of life on our planet.
There is a need to keep the eyes open for the actions of religious fundamentalists to keep the world the rational and pragmatic.
In this letter I attempted to present my opinion on problem of growth of human population but I I would like to hear yours, Mr. President. I am sure that our countrymen would appreciate very much the presentation of your own opinion on this matter.
In anticipation of your response please accept, Mr. President, my regards.
P.S. I take the liberty of sending the copy of this letter to mass media of my choice to encourage others to participate in an effort to limit human’s population.
